PDP concerned over shortage of essentials in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) Expressing serious concern over the complaints of artificial shortage of rice and other consumer goods, created by the unscrupulous elements in the valley, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today urged the administration to take concrete measures for smooth supply of essentials to people.
There was acute shortage of essentials, while the power supply was also inadequate, three senior PDP leaders and former ministers said in a statement here today.
The leaders Muhammad Dilawar Mir, Peer Muhammad Hussain and Sartaj Madni said there was a shortage of food grains in far - flung and rural areas of the valley due to alleged mismanagement of the administration.
They said the people were complaining that ration depots in the rural areas have virtually run dry and the administration was paying little attention to the issue of supplies and stocking.
''Either this has not been done, or if the supplies have reached the respective regions, they are not being distributed properly'' they said.
The PDP leaders alleged that there was no proper monitoring of complaints from various quarters that essential commodities were becoming scarce.
They alleged that a situation has been allowed to be created where the unscrupulous elements were having a field day amassing wealth at the cost of causing inconvenience and insecurity to the masses.
They impressed upon the administration to take cognisance of complaints of artificial shortage created by these elements in the valley, who are being patronised by some officials.
This, they said, has to be checked to ensure that enough food was available to people in all regions, especially those living in far flung and remote hilly areas.
The PDP leaders said undue power cuts and erratic supply was a matter for concern.
