Liquidity will be provided, if necessary: FM

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Admitting that the Indian economy is faced with a liquidity problem, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today gave a categorical assurance that the issue will be addressed.

''RBI Governor is already on record. If necessary he will take further measures to infuse liquidity,'' Mr Chidambaram told reporters here.

The Finance Minister asserted that the fundamentals of Indian economy are still strong, despite the global financial crisis.

He said the Government was fully alive to the need for greater liquidity in the Indian market.

"Of course, liquidity will be provided. Everybody in the world is doing it. We are not affected to the same extent by the global financial crisis, but to the extent there is shortage of liquidity in the Indian market, we will provide it," he said.
