Goa Governor, CM extend Dussehra greetings
Panaji, Oct 8 (UNI) Goa Governor Dr S S Sidhu and Chief Minister Digamber Kamat today extended warm greetings to people on the eve of Dussehra.
Dr Sidhu, in his message, said ''Dussehra is a unique festival celebrated in our country with great enthusiasm, gaiety and spiritual fervour. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil.'' ''It is vital that we celebrate this occasion with a greater sense of cooperation and bonhomie in order to preserve and promote the virtues of universal brotherhood, peace, mutual understanding and unity,'' he said.
Mr Kamat, in his message, said, ''These festivals are part of our composite heritage and strengthen the spirit of harmony, brotherhood and secular ethos for which the state of Goa is known World over.'' He said that Lord Rama defeated Ravana, a symbol of injustice and unfairness, and laid the foundation of an enlightened and just social order on ''Vijayadashami'', the day when Goddess Durga annihilated the demon Mahishasur and freed the universe from his evil grip.
The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the people of Goa will unite to fight all kinds of evils, including terrorism, and celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and fervour and prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in the state.
