Ferozpur leading in paddy procurement

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) Ferozpur district was leading in paddy procurement in the state with 4,67,733 tonnes purchased till yesterday.

Tarn Taran was at the second spot with 2,11,909 tonnes. The paddy purchase in Punjab touched 21.39 lakh tonnes till yesterday.

According to an official spokesman, PUNGRAIN procured 4,84,359 tonnes of paddy, which was 25.9 per cent of the total procurement, whereas Markfed procured 4,43,069 tonnes of paddy, Punsup procured 4,27,970 tonnes of paddy, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 2,59,071 tonnes of paddy besides 2,29,949 tonnes of paddy procured by Punjab Agro. The Central Government Agency FCI procured only 26,487 tonnes of paddy, which was just 1.4 per cent of the total procurement.

The millers had procured 2,68,369 tonnes of paddy by Tuesday.
