Centre, states failed to ensure safety to Christians: FCA

Kakinada, Oct 8 (UNI) Condemning attacks on places of worship and properties in Karnataka, Orissa and other states, Federation of Christian Associations (FCA) President Rev Yelchuri Paparao today criticised the state governments and the Centre for failing to ensure safety to the minorities.

Addressing mediapersons here, Md Paparao, who is also Chief of the 'Missions to the Nations', said it was most unfortunate that the places of worship and properties became targets of attacks and subjected to vandalism in neighbouring Karnataka, Orissa, Kerala and other states.

The minorities and the state governments have failed to prevent these onslaughts and ensure safety to them, he added.

''These attacks against Christians are without any provocation or reason. Christians are peace loving people and never tried to retaliate, except making fervent appeals to the government to save them from the onslaughts,'' he said.

The minorities, who had been the traditional supporters of the Congress, were now ''disenchanted'' with its rule, especially because of its ''failure to control the violent attacks on Christian places of worship and institutions in Orissa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, '' he claimed.
