Haryana: 13,699 BPL families get power connections
Chandigarh, Oct 8: The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has issued 13,699 domestic connections to the people living below poverty line (BPL) so far under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY).
It was planned to release 1,10,159 connections under the scheme, an official spokesman said here today.
The Nigam has also provided free of cost CFLS to the new (BPL) consumers.
He said the Uhbvn had started execution of developmental works in its command area, under the schemes sanctioned by the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), to implement the RGGVY for which a sum of Rs 104.34 crore was sanctioned to strengthen the distribution system in district Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Jind.
The electricity consumers of 3,567 villages would be benefitted by the scheme by way of improved distribution system, better voltage and least interruptions.
He said it had been planned to install 628 distribution transformers of 63 KVA and 3,023 distribution transformers of 25 KVA capacity, exclusively for release of the BPL connections in the rural areas which will help reduce load on the other existing transformers.
