TTD nets Rs 34 lakh in cottage rentals

Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 7 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has netted a record income of over Rs 34 lakh in rent for cottages provided to pilgrims for the first six days of the ongoing annual 'Brahmotsavam' at the Sri Venkateswara Temple here.

Addressing the press here today, Reception I Deputy Executive Officer Venkatiah said accommodation was provided to more than 3.42 lakh pilgrims during the six days with an occupancy rate of 98.53 per cent as against 97.16 per cent last year.

To a question, he said no temporary shelters had been constructed for the pilgrims and those not being able to get accomodation slept under trees, on footpaths and verandahs of cottages.

Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Chinnamgariramana said the pilgrims were accommodated in 45,000 rooms, including VIP cottages.Over 124 rooms belonging to various mutts had been taken to meet the demand of the pilgrims during the Brhamotsavams.
