Ten drowned after vehicle fell into canal
Burdwan, Oct 7 (UNI) Altogether ten people drowned when a private vehicle carrying them overturned and fell into an irrigation canal at Chakaberia Hathtala in West Bengals Burdwan district late last night.
Police said today that the victims were the members of a family travelling from Pathra Bazar under Jamalpur police station area to Memary in the district when the Tata Sumo carrying them overturned and fell into the canal.
However their driver Nandu managed to swim ashore and fled, police added.
The accident took place at 0030 hours mid-night last night, police informed.
The bodies were fished out this morning and sent for postmortem police said.
