Its official now, Tata Nano to roll out from Gujarat
Just in: The Gujarat Cabinet on Tuesday, Oct 7 approved the allotment of land to Tata Nano project. A joint formal announcement by Ratan Tata and Narendra Modi to be made later in the day.
Ahmedabad, Oct 7: Will West Bengal's loss be a gain to Gujarat? We need to wait and watch. There are unconfirmed reports that Tata Motors will roll out its Nano from Gujarat. However, the officials of Tata Motors will take one final look on Tuesday, Oct 7 at a site near Sanand, 25 kms from the western fringes of Ahmedabad that has been identified for the Nano plant. Tata chief, Ratan Tata is also expected to arrive in Gujarat on Tuesday, Oct 7 to meet Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Reports suggest that all hurdles are cleared for the transfer of 1400 acres of land to the Tatas. It is also reported that the Gujarat government has assured various tax benefits and ready land along with connectivity with national highway. Interestingly, during a summit in Ahmedabad in 2007 Ratan Tata had said, "If you are not in Gujarat, you are stupid".
"Nano is such an issue that only the Tatas can comment on it. Tata group officials have done their analysis in about eight states, they had come to Gujarat too, now it's up to them to take a decision," said Narendra Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat.
The 1000-acre land which the Tatas have to finally select is located within a 2200-acre campus owned by the Anand Agriculture University which serves as a cattle and seed farm.
