SGPC chief thanks Sikhs of Haryana

Kurukshetra, Oct 7 (UNI) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar today thanked the leadership of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Committee for postponing their October eight programme of taking over the 'sewa' of the 6th Patshahi Gurdwara here which is under SGPC control.

After participating in the prayers going on in the gurdwara hall, Jathedar Makkar said after the 'Gurutagaddi Divas' celebrations the SGPC would sit with the Sikhs of Haryana to take stock of their problems and issues.

The Haryana Gurdwara Committee had postponed its plan to take over the 6th Patshahi Gurdwara here following a meeting yesterday with Punjab CMs Advisor Daljit Singh Cheema and senior Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra. Talks between the SGPC and the Haryana Sikhs would now be held around November 10 to 20 to find an amicable solution to the demands of the community.

The Akal Takht had recently appealed to the Haryana Sikhs to postpone their programme till after the 'Gurutagaddi Divas' celebrations.

Jathedar Makkar however alleged that the Congress in Haryana was meddling in the affairs of the Sikhs and was responsible for propogating the idea of a separate gurdwara committee for the Sikhs of the state which was a violation of the All India Sikh Gurdwara Act.
