Police burst tear gas shells in Baramulla
Baramulla, Oct 7 (UNI) Police burst tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators protesting against the alleged arrest of a separatist leader this afternoon.
Hundreds of people took to the streets at Baramulla maintown when the news spread that Ajaz Ahmad Rather, a senior leader of Tehreek-e- hurriyat headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was picked up by security forces at 1630 hrs at tehsil road here.
Demanding the release of Rather, the demonstrators staged a 'Dharna' outside police station here.
Police later resorted to lathicharge, followed by burst of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Business and other activities. which resumed this morning after two days curfew, came to halt.
