Mortal remains of Laxmi Indira Panda consigned to flames
Bhubaneswar,Oct 7 (UNI) The mortal remains of freedom fighter Laxmi Indira Panda were consigned to flames with full state honour in presence of her family members here today.
The former Captain of the Rani Jhansi regiment of Indian National Army led by Subash Chandra Bose, Laxmi Indiara Panda, died at the All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, yesterday following a brain stroke.
Ms Panda had joined the regiment when she was 14 and fought against the British for the country's independence.
Orissa Governor M C Bhandare and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid their last tributes to the great soul at the Airport after her body arrived here this morning.
They also mourned her death and expressed their condolence to the her family members.
A guard of honour was given on behalf the state police.
Later, Mr Patnaik announced to install a statue in her memory at Jeypore in Koraput district.
