Cong demands CBI probe into custody death at Sonia's constituency
Lucknow, Oct 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) today demanded a CBI probe into the death of one Jawahar Lal Maurya, who was whisked away by the police and was later found murdered in Bhodakhar police station area of Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of party supremo Sonia Gandhi.
''Suspecting foul play into the whole incident, the UPCC has demanded action against Arun Kumar Singh, the station officer of Bhadokhar police station in Rae Bareli district.
The UPCC delegation led by its president Reeta Bahuguna Joshi today met UP Governor T V Rajeswar and submitted a memorandum in this regard. It alleged that Mayawati government was protecting the police official and was unwilling to provide justice to the family of the backward class victim.
Besides demanding a CBI probe into this, the memorandum also stressed upon remedial action against the police and a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the victim's family. The victim is survived by an ailing wife and a minor daughter.
