College students, lawyers burn Rajaakse effigy
Chennai, Oct 7 (UNI) College students and Lawyers today staged protest demonstrations at three places in Tamil Nadu, against the ''genocide'' of Tamils in Sri Lanka and burnt the effigy of Island Nation President Mahinda Rajapakse.
As the vexed issue is once again on the boil in the State, students of Government Arts College in Villupuram, took out a procession, urging the Indian Government to exert pressure on Sri Lanka Government to stop the genocide of Tamils.
Students of Salem Law College launched a similar agitation.
Students of the two colleges raised slogans against the Congress- led UPA Government for offering military assistance to Sri Lanka and burnt the effigy of Mr Rajapakse.
Lawyers of Madurai Judicial Court also staged a protest demonstration and burnt the effigy of Mr Rajapakse. Appreciating the initiatives being taken by the political parties in the state, they demanded that the Centre take firm steps to protect the Tamils.
