Tamils Genocide: PM reassures Karunanidhi over phone
Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over telephone and assured him that the Centre would initiate all steps against the genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Dr Singh called up Mr Karunanidhi at 1130 hrs a day after the latter called upon the people to send lakhs to telegrames to the Prime Minister in this regard, a release said.
The Chief Minister had yesterday suggested that Dr Singh should immediately summon the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Delhi and lodge India's protest against the genocide.
He had also demanded that the Prime Minister should take all steps for return of peace in Sri Lanka and ensure that fishermen from Tamil Nadu were not subjected to attacks by the island Navy anymore.
Dr Singh, who shared his concern and grief, assured Mr Karunanidhi that he would take all steps to address his grievances and demands.
