Special train heads to Allahabad instead of Lucknow

Lucknow, Oct 6: Special puja train No 4006A (Duplicate Lichchavi Express) on Sunday, Oct 5 left passengers of Charbagh railway station confused when it headed to Allahabad instead of Lucknow. The puja special operates between New Delhi and Darbhanga. Two routes diverge from Kanpur station — one via Lucknow and another via Allahabad.

“We went to the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) and told him that the train was heading towards the wrong direction. He then passed the information to his seniors," said Praveen Kumar Srivastava, a passenger. The harried passengers said that at first the TTE refused to take the train back to Kanpur saying that he has been asked by the authorities to head to Allahabad. “After a drama of over two hours, we were informed that the railway authorities have decided to take the train back to Kanpur," said another passenger Dharmendra.

The train was put on the Kanpur-Allahabad route instead of Kanpur-Lucknow and had already covered a distance of 15 kms when the error was rectified.

The train, that was to arrive at the Charbagh station at around 9 am, arrived at 1340 hrs, over five hours late than the scheduled time. Railway officials realised their mistake and backtracked the train after the passengers waiting at the Charbagh station and those in the train proceeding from Kanpur raised a hue and cry.
