Punjab govt orders probe into tree felling in forests
Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) The Punjab Government has decided to constitute a ten member enquiry team headed by Chief Conservator, Forest (Forest Protection), Kuldeep Kumar to probe illegal felling of trees in the 'Kandi' belt bordering the hill state of Himachal Pradesh.
Taking a serious view of reports of large scale illegal felling of forest trees, Forest Minister Tikshan Sud directed the Chief Conservator to constitute a ten member probe team. This team would include three Conservators of Forest and three Divisional Forest Officers.
This committee would check the forests in Gurdaspur district and around Dasuya and Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur and submit its report to to the Chief Conservator within 15 days.
The Minister said that on receiving the report, strict disciplinary action would be taken against erring officials and others.
