Programmes to be held in church marking canonisation

Kottayam, Oct 6 (UNI) Special programmes would be held at Kudamaloor St Mary's Forane Church, the home parish of AlphonsAmma on the occasion of her canonization by Pope Benedict XIV at Vatican on October 12.

Talking to newspersons here today, General Convenor of the celebrations and Vicar of the Church Fr George Koodathil said 'live telecast' of the canonization programme would be held at the church.

A procession would be taken out from the church to the ancestral home of AlphonsAmma in the evening.

He also said St AlphonsAmma's feast would be celebrated with various programmes from October 24 to November two. Fr George Koodathil would hoist the flag to mark the commencement of the feast.

Ecumenical Conference, as part of the feast would be held on October 24. A conference on women, nun and communal amity, apart from dedication of the houses at Alphonsa Nagar, would be held.

Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil would inaugurate the Valedictory Conference on November two. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi would be the chief guest at the conference.

Meanwhile, all catholic churches in the State would ring the church bells on the occasion of the canonisation of AlphonsAmma.
