Indo-Nepal meeting on Kosi issue

Patna, Oct 6 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Water Resources Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav today said a high level meeting was held between India and Nepal over the issue of construction of high dam on the Kosi.

Mr Yadav said both the countries had discussed the issue in detail and a consensus was reached for preparing a project report by December 2009.

The joint committee constituted for the rivers, Kosi and Gandak had been extended and expanded further he said adding that the committee would meet in October -November in Patna and in May-June in Kathmandu.

A three-tier communication channel - of minister, secretary and technical level, was also formed in the meeting.

He said the plugging of the breached Kushwaha embankment in Nepal was likely to be completed by December 2008.
