TDP dubs SEZs as Special Exploitation Zones

Kakinada, Oct 5 (UNI)The Special Economic Zones and Coastal Corridor came in handy to the Andhra Pradesh Government to indulge in real estate business with the promoters at the cost of poor farmers and fishermen, TDP General Secretary Kimidi Kala Venkatrao alleged today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said there was no need for 56 SEZs in the State, as they proved to be ''special exploitation zones''.

Mr Rao demanded the Government to minimise their numbers by returning the lands to the original farmers. 40 per cent of the SEZs in the country were in Andhra Pardesh, he said.

On forging alliances with other parties, he said though TDP was strong enough to contest the elections on its own, but if the situation warrants, in the interest of the state and the people's welfare, it would opt for an electoral understanding with like-minded parties. We will welcome, if they work with us to put an end to the corrupt Congress regime, he added.

On separate Telangana issue, he said the core committee of the TDP would come out with a policy statement soon. However, TDP being a democratic party would go by the peoples aspirations and honour their sentiments, he added.

Criticising the Congress for its misrule, he cited that the prices of rice and other essential commodities were skyrocketing and making the lives of people miserable.
