Miscreants decamp with Rs 5 lakh, 60 gold sovereigns
Chennai, Oct 5 (UNI) Miscreants struck at a house of a contractor cook and decamped with 60 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs five lakh cash at Tondairpet area in North Chennai today.
Police said the miscreants also burnt the electronic durables like fridge and TV before fleeing the scene.
The family of Elumalai, a professional cook, who used to get big orders like marriages, was away on a pilgrimage to Periyapalayam when the incident took place.
On being informed by the neighbours that fire was noticed in the house and smoke was emanating, the family rushed back to Chennai in the wee hours and found the lockers broken and jewels and cash missing.
Police have registered a case and investigating.
