KU examinations postponed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 5: All the examinations of the Kashmir University (KU) and hundreds of marriage ceremonies scheduled to be held from today till October 7 have been postponed or cancelled due to prevailing situation in the state.

The controller of examination, KU, A M Shah in a message said that due to prevailing situation, all the examinations scheduled to be held from today till October 7 had been postponed.

He said new dates would be announced later.

Hundreds of marraige ceremonies, which were also scheduled to be held from today till October 8 had been either postponed or cancelled.

The authorities had imposed indefinite curfew in Srinagar and other major towns in the Kashmir valley early this morning to prevent people from attending ''the Lal Chowk chalo march'' tomorrow.

The call was given by the Coordination Committee (CC), which is spearheading the present agitation.

The CC, an alliance of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC), traders, lawyers and other separatist organisations, is, among other things, demanding release of all detenues, withdrawal of troops and special powers to security forces.
