Heroin seized from Birmingham bound Air India flight
Amritsar, Oct 5 (UNI) Heroin weighing 3.77 kg and valued approximately Rs 18 crore in the international market was seized by the customs staff from a Birmingham-bound Air India flight at the Raja Sansi airport here today.
A customs official said the seizure was made from the baggage of an NRI couple, identified as Rajinder Singh and Harjinder Kaur, German nationals belonging to Jalandhar.
The official said the aircraft was taxing on the runway and was awaiting clearance for take-off when the customs officers received information that there could be heroin on the aicraft.
Thereafter, the aircraft was not allowed to take off and the customs officials swung into action to find the contraband.
During the search of the baggage of the passengers, packets of heroin were were found in a small briefcase being carried by the pair.
The duo were later booked under NDPS Act and are being questioned.
The Air India flight IC 187 was en route to Birmingham from Delhi with a halt at the Raja Sansi Airport. The couple boarded the flight at the airport here.
