Fierce encounter in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) A fierce encounter was going on between militants and security forces in north Kashmir official sources said today.

They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Dever Mirgi in the frontier district of Kupwara today following a tip off about the presence of militants.

During the operation militants opened fire with automatic weapons and also hurled grenade, ensuing an encounter.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said.
