Eight children die in Bengal
Berhampore, Oct 5 (UNI) At least eight children died due to suspected water-borne diseases in the Murshidabad district in the last 24 hours, raising the toll to 25 during the last seven days.
The chief medical health officer today said some doctors had taken leave for Durga Puja in the sub-divisional hospitals, which had left no alternative other than referring the cases to the Berhampore Sadar Hospital.
As a result, the Sadar hospital had become crowded with patients lying on the floor and sharing beds with others, undergoing a phase of utter negligence.
