Man's 'suicide attempt' creates flutter

Puducherry, Oct 4 (UNI) A 38-year-old man, said to be mentally ill, created a flutter by threatening to commit suicide by jumping from a cell phone tower here today.

Police said Manimaran of G N Palayam, near here, suffered a mental shock after his mother's death eight days ago. This afternoon, he climbed atop a 165-ft tower of a private cell phone company at Villianur and threatened to jump.

On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and after exchanging words for about one-hour, they managed to bring him down safely.

He was later arrested.
