IYC welcomes raising of creamy layer ceiling for OBCs
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) today welcomed the Centre's decision to revise the income criteria for the creamy layer from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh per annum for the OBCs.
In a statement, Mr Kamleshwar Patel, General Secretary of the IYC, said the Manmohan Singh Government has once again demonstrated its political commitment to strengthen the base for an egalitarian society, by raising the income ceiling for determining the creamy layer, which would ensure more number of people covered under the reservation policy. ''This will create equal opportunities of growth for all sections. It is a step towards social empowerment of the vulnerable,'' he added.
He said the decision comes at a time when its need was so urgent for the OBCs.
