WB: 5 hurt in under construction mall collapse

Kolkata, Oct 4: Five labourers sustained injuries as an under construction shoppingall in Kolkata collapsed on Friday.

"When we came in we got information that four individuals are trapped. By the time we assessed the situation, the injured persons have already been taken to hospital and only one was trapped," said Mukesh Verma, deputy commandant, National Disaster Response Force.

The initial investigation of the causes of collapse indicated that the building could have caved in because of poor engineering.

The five-storey multiplex coming up on VIP Road is bang opposite Big Bazaar. Finishing touches to the casting work had started on the top floor of the upcoming building some days ago.
