Unification has terrified Congress: Mahanta
Guwahati, Oct 3 (UNI) The unification of regional forces in Assam under Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has ''terrified'' the ruling Congress and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was making baseless allegations against his predecessor Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
This was observed here today by Mr Mahanta saying "The unification has frightened Mr Gogoi and hence, he is making all sort of wild statements against me." He alleged that the Congress had wanted to destroy the regional forces but the failure of its ploy has terrified it.
All splinter factions and individuals of the AGP would merge with the parent party on October 14 in a bid to boost the regional camp.
Mr Mahanta said he would also make a comeback to the party of which he was the founder-president. He was expelled for ''anti-party activities" in 2005.
Referring to allegations of failure by Mr Mahanta's government, he claimed that the Congress government had several taints on itself and those should be examined before raising the ''accusing finger''.
