Trust to involve Overseas Indians in philanthropic works in India
New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) Aimed at engaging overseas Indians in philanthropic activities in India, the Government today decided to set up a not-for-profit Trust called the "India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians." A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gave its approval for the setting up of the trust under the Indian Trust Act, 1882.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons that the Trust would lead overseas Indian philanthropic capital into India, besides establishing and maintaining a "Social Capital and Philanthropic Network" In India.
It would strive for social sector development, including empowerment of rural women.
