Surveillance cameras installed in major TN temples

Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) In a first-of-its-kind security initiative in a temple, 16 surveillance cameras have been installed at the famous Lord Murugan temple at Vadapalani in the city, today.

The surveillance camera facility was inaugurated by Chennai City Police Commissioner R Sekar.

Later, talking to newspersons here, he said other famous temples like the Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore and Parthasarathy temple in Triplicane would also have surveillance cameras as part of tightening security measures.

A policeman with a walkie-talkie could do the work of 100 police personnel with the help of these cameras. These gadgets would help us check terror threats faced by temples, he added.

Of the 16 cameras, 13 have been installed inside the temple premises. The remaining three were installed at the Temple tower (Gopuram) and other places.

All the cameras were attached to the control room opened at the police outpost where trained personnel would monitor the activities.
