Students of Madrassas to get quality education : CCEA
New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) The Centre today sanctioned a Rs 325-crore scheme to encourage traditional institutions like Madrassas, Maktabs and Darul ulooms to introduce science, mathematics, social studies, language and English in their curriculum.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gave its approval for the scheme called "Providing Quality Education in Madrassas." Finance Minister P Chidambaram told mediapersons that the scheme woud help children of these institutions to attain academic proficiency in classes I to XII.
He said the scheme provided for linkages with the National Institutions of Open Schooling (NIOS) in order to acquire education comparable to the national education system.
