'Palace on wheels' to take you on a North Indian trip

New Delhi, Oct 3: Enjoy a North India trip in 'Palace on Wheels' train. The Ministry of Tourism in association with Indian Railways and Punjab Government will launch 'Palace on Wheels', a tourist train to promote luxury tourism in northern India. A Rs 7.25 crore investment from the Ministry, the train will cover popular destinations like Amritsar, Dharamshala, Anandpur Sahib, Patiala, Kurukshetra, Jaipur, Agra and Delhi in a week-long itinerary. The train is likely to take two years to take to the tracks.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday, Oct 1 between the Railways and Punjab government in the presence of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Soni said, “Last year the estimated numbers of domestic travelers was nearly 450 million and a large number of these tourists use the Indian Railways to travel within the country. Given the importance of Indian Railways in promoting tourism, the Ministry of Tourism, expects a substantial support from the Indian Railways to increase the number of tourists in future."
