Fate of indicted teachers to be decided after probe:CS
Patiala, Oct 3 (UNI) The Fate of the teachers indicted in a case registered by the Vigilance Bureau would be decided only after completing the investigation, Punjab Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh, also the incharge of VB, said here today.
The VB, Mohali yesterday registered a case against Brig (Retd) Charanjiv Singh Harika, former chairman of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB), a PCS officer Navjot Singh Randhawa and some other employees of the board for recruiting 2,450 teachers by allegedly bending rules and tampering with the record during the regime of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
The Chief Secretary, while interacting with the media here, refused to comment on the fate of the teachers, saying it would depend on the outcome of the investigation, which was a legal process.
Brig. Harika, was handpicked by former Chief Minister and made chairman of PSSSB in December, 2002.
It was alleged that the selection committee recruited at least 52 teachers, by tampering with the merit list of the candidates.
Moreover, 90 of the selected teachers did not qualify for the job. The alleged bungling was also reported in the case of general category teachers.
The suspects have been booked under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 201, 120-B, IPC, and Sections 7, 131-D of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
