Lucknow, Oct 3 (UNI) Mafia turned politician D P Yadav has denied his involvement in the last night arrest of Ajay Katara, the key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case.

Claiming that it was a conspiracy hatched by Neelam Katara and Ajay to defame him, UP MLA D P Yadav said he was in Lucknow since yesterday and the couple, who had lodged cases against Ajay were not related to him.

Talking to UNI here, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA said Ajay is a 'broker' while Neelam, using her influence in New Delhi was trying to tarnish his political image.

''How can anyone say that I am trying to influence the Nitish Katara case when the judgement of the case has been pronounced and UP Chief Minister Mayawati had given us clear instruction not to misuse police for personal interest'', he said.

He also denied that there was any attack on the vehicle of Ajay.

''Ajay with the help of Neelam were just making wild allegations against me for their own vested interest'', he claimed.

Yadav, giving some details about the past criminal antecedents of Ajay said his third wife Neetu Choudhury had even given her statements in the court about the misuse of four security personnel by her husband.

He also questioned why Neelam has reached the Ghaziabad court this morning to take the bail of Ajay when she had in the past told the court that Ajay was not known to her.

Ajay was arrested by the police in Ghaziabad late last night on charges of kidnapping. He is accused of trying to kidnap a distant relative of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, the father of Vikas Yadav, who has been sentenced to life for the murder of Nitish Katara.

On the other hand, Neelam Katara has alleged that the arrest had been made on the behest of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati who favoured her party MLA D P Yadav.

Meawnhile, Vijay Bhushan, the SP(City), Ghaziabad said he had been arrested on the charge of eve teasing and attempt to kidnapping on the basis of the complaint of one Dharmendra Yadav lodged on September 29 last. ''These are serious charges hence the arrest was made,'' he said.
