Communal clash leaves three dead in Assam
Guwahati, Oct 3 (UNI) Curfew was clamped and shoot at sight orders were issued after at least three persons were killed in a communal clash in north Assam today.
Assam police spokesman and DIG (Central-Western Range) Bhaskar J Mohanta here said the clash broke out in Shahidpur and Udalguri districts, leaving at least three dead, 25 houses torched and more than a dozen villages affected.
He stated that the authorities were forced to impose curfew and issue shoot at sight orders to avert any further untoward incident.
''Shoot at sight orders have been issued against anyone found engaged in violence. The situation is being closely watched and it will soon be brought under control, '' he added.
He informed that the clash started when a group of minority people reportedly attacked some Bodo tribesman of a village defence party with arrows and other sharp weapons at Mohanapur in Udalguri district early this morning.
The attackers also took away one person, who was later rescued from Mohanapur school by police, he said.
Meanwhile, normal traffic was affected near Nalgaon as villagers had attacked some long distance vehicles between Nalgaon and Rouda.
