Ambit of programme for control of blindness expanded
New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) The Centre today decided to continue the National Programme for Control of Blindness during the Eleventh Plan with an overall outlay of Rs 1250 crore.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also decided to enlarge the ambit of the programme to include diseases like Diabetic retnopathy, childhood blindness, low vision aids, squint, VR surgery, glaucoma, laser techniques and corneal trnasplantation surgeries, in addition to cataract, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told mediapersons.
