Chennai, Oct 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today warned youth against falling prey to communal differences and to the vices that affect our nation's integrity and soverignty.
Addressing the 139th Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations at Gandhi Mandapam here, the Governor said, ''Youth are the citizens of tomorrow and it is necessary to mould them into good citizens with compassion and character.'' Stating that Gandhiji was the guiding spirit for the youth, the Governor said the youth, especially students, should have a vision and a dream and plan for the future of the nation.
''Youth are a reservoir of energy and power and are vulnerable to evils. If the youth cultivate hatredness, violence and indifference, they will become a heavy burden to the society,'' he cautioned.
He said youth should stand for peace and progress to build up a stronger India, blooming with knowledge, unit, peace and harmony.
Creation of greater awareness on the principles of Gandhiji among the youth was the need of the hour, the Governor called upon the youth to dedicate themselves in building the India that Gandhiji had foreseen.
''The nation needs youth with courage and confidence, sincerity and dedication combined with compassion and humanness,'' he said.
