Rahul spends night with tribal family; performs Shramdaan in NREGS
Jaipur, Oct 2 (UNI) Adhering to his pro-poor style of political practice, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi spent a night with a tribal Sahariya family in Amroli village of Baran district in Rajasthan and also performed Shramdaan at a National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) work.
He went around the village freely interacting with the villagers and slept on a jute weaven cot at night.
The SPG and security agencies had made a three-tier security arrangements around the village for his visit.
The hosts and the villagers were thrilled to find the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family among them, Congress leader and former Minister Shanti Dhariwal told UNI over telephone.
Later, Mr Gandhi visited the nearby Pinjna village to inspect work being done for digging of a pond under the NREGS and sought updates from the workers on the implementation-related aspects and problems faced by them.
He also performed shramdaan and worked with the labourers and the40-member Youth Congress squad for sometime.
The Amethi MP had come to Rajasthan yesterday to visit Jodhpur for a first-hand information on Tuesday's temple stampede.
This came as a surprise to the administration which was expecting him to return to Delhi from Jodhpur. His special plane, however, took off from Jodhpur for Kota last evening.
From Kota, he reached Anta town in Baran district and spent some time at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) rest house.
Later, he proceeded for Amroli to spend the night with a Sahariya family.
The Congress leader had also joined a Dalit family for dinner in a village in his Amethi constituency in May this year.
Later, Mr Gandhi returned to Kota and flew for the national capital this afternoon.
