NHRC notice to Bihar govt on flood issue
Patna, Oct 2 (UNI) Taking exception to the pulling out of the Army and its choppers from the flood-affected North Bihar, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the state government to give explanation for reduction of Army columns.
In a notice served on the state Chief Secretary, the commission asked the state government to respond by October 31 on the matter.
The NHRC took cognizance following a complaint made by NCP leader Suraj Yadav. Mr Yadav had written to the commission alleging violation of human rights of more than 35 lakh flood-affected citizens of Bihar.
The leader had stated that the public servants did nothing to prevent violation of human rights. He demanded legal action against the guilty after a thorough probe.
The Commission had already registered a case in this regard and issued the notice on September 25 asking the Bihar government to explain its position on the issue.
