Moily favours intelligence network, law enforcement to fight terror
Guwahati, Oct 2 (UNI) Senior Congress leader M Veerapa Moily today strongly advocated for proper intelligence network and stringent law enforcement for effectively checking the terrorist activities in the country.
Condemning yesterday's serial blasts in Tripura, Dr Moily said here, ''All acts of terrorism must be condemned in the strongest words.'' He stressed on the need for a powerful security mechanism under every state government to effectively check terrorism.
''The Centre can provide the intelligence inputs, but the state government is responsible for enforcement,'' he added, refusing to name any state that could have failed in effectively checking terrorism as it would politicise the issue.
Referring to his report on terrorism submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Dr Moily said, ''Strong laws and surveillance is needed to check terrorism, together with development of an environment where terrorists would get no support from any section of society.'' Blaming the BJP-led NDA government for failing to check terrorism, he said, ''The Congress inherited BJP's failure and the ill it had done by communalising terrorism.'' He also criticised the BJP for its alleged failure in curbing violence against minorities in states ruled by it.
Dr Moily also alleged that the NDA had failed in addressing the illegal immigration issue and claimed that the Congress had initiated several steps to solve the problem after being voted to power, both at the Centre and Assam.
