Two smugglers detained under Goondas Act
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 2: District Collector T Soundiah has ordered the detention of three notorious rice smugglers under the Goondas Act.
Police said Kalifullah (53) and his sons Syed Ibrahim (25) and Abuthageer (24) hailed from Manthurai Village, near here.
On a tip off, a police team of Civil Supplies CID Wing, seized 882 bags of ration rice from their house and a rice mill run by them on September 13.
They also seized a lorry which was kept ready for loading the rice to be smuggled to neighbouring Kerala.
As there were several cases of rice smuggling pending against them, the Civil Supplies CID recommended detention under the Goondas Act.
