Pending schemes for Karaikal to be sanctioned
Puducherry, Oct 1 (UNI) Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee President A V Subramanian today said a high-level committee meeting held here to review the Karaikal developmental schemes has decided to implement all pending schemes for the region forthwith.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Subramanian said it was also decided at the meeting held yesterday to pass all files relating to Karaikal without delay and that all heads of departments would visit the region once in a month and secretaries once in two months.
He said the setting up of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Karaikal was a long-pending demand and the Centre had permitted the setting up of one with 50 seats for Puducherry and the remaining 50 for the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
A 300-acre site was identified for the same, he added.
He said by-pass roads from Karaikal harbour to Chennai and Nandalar border would be laid at a cost of Rs 30 crore.
Mr Subramanian, who demanded regional reservation for Karaikal in creating employment opportunities, also wanted stringent action against corrupt officials in the Union Territory.
