MIC chief holds government responsible for Hindu temple demolition in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Oct 1 : The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president, Seri S.Samy Vellu has held the Selangor Government responsible for the demolition of the Hindu temple in Ampang, as the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) was under the jurisdiction of the state government.
According to NST.com, Vellu said, "We want the state government to give the assurance that it will not demolish any more temples."
The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) has also called on state executive councilor Xavier Jeyakumar to be careful while making statements to the press.
The MHS president, A. Vaithilingam said, "Jeyakumar described the breaking of temples as a 'small' issue compared to the bigger issues Indians faced, not realising that for Indians, the breaking of a place of worship is definitely a serious issue."
Selangor Wanita Malaysia Chinese Association (MCA) chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun condemned the PKR-led Selangor Government saying the party's promise to protect houses of worship was merely a votes-bank tactics.
He said, "The Indian voters supported Pakatan Rakyat during the General Elections because they did not expect such treatment."
Moreover, the MCA Youth secretary-general, Dr Wee Ka Siong also expressed disappointment over the demolition.
