Kidwai asks senior citizens to involve in social work
Chandigarh, Oct 1 (UNI) Living a happy life after retirement is an art and senior citizens could be masters of this art by utilising their knowledge and expertise in rendering social service to the society in different fields, Haryana Governor A R Kidwai said today.
Dr Kidwai was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Senior Citizens' Day function organised by the Chandigarh Senior Citizens' Association here today.
The Governor said retirement did not mean an inactive and secluded life from various activities but after the retirement senior citizens should lead an active life and social work was the best way to serve the society.
''After retirement there is real opportunity for them to do social service which would go a long way in making India a leading and prosperous nation of the world,'' he added.
Dr Kidwai said the senior citizens could help the nation in the eradication of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance with their long experience and knowledge based skills by following the mission of social service.
He said although the governments were providing a number of facilities for their welfare, the senior citizens themselves must work jointly to improve their own lot rather than depending on others.
The Governor contributed a donation of Rs One lakh to the Association for the welfare of the senior citizens.
He also honoured 19 senior citizens with Senior Citizens' Day Awards for their outstanding services in various fields.
