High security registration number plates from Oct 14 in Sikkim
Gangtok, Oct 1 (UNI) The Sikkim government will introduce high security registration plates from October 14 replacing the old system of number plate design and registrations in order to curb the growing menace of crime and terrorist activities using motor vehicles.
An official release issued here today said all new motor vehicles registered in Sikkim after October 14 would be fitted with high security registration plates. Vehicles with existing registration plates have been directed to get the high security registration plates in a phased manner within a period of two years as per the arrangements made by motor vehicles division of the State Transport department.
"The motive behind introducing the new registration exercise is to curb the growing menace of crime and terrorist activities using motor vehicles as tools.The new system is highly technical and leaves little room for misuse by terrorists or car thieves," the release said.
