Guj varsities VCs condemn Jamia Milia VC's statement
Rajkot, Oct 1 (UNI) Vice chancellors of the Universities in Gujarat have condemned the statement of Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia of New Delhi that the University would support those students who were arrested after the encounter in Jamia Nagar, in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed recently.
On September 19, in a fierce encounter, Delhi police had gunned down two militants and arrested three others in Jamia Nagar of South Delhi.
The joint committee of Vice Chancellors of the Universities of Gujarat met yesterday in Gandhinagar and discussed the role of youth in the present situation, particularly in an age marked by terrorist attacks and bomb explosions, said Saurashtra University Vice Chancellor Dr Kamlesh Joshipura in a release here today.
The meeting condemned the support extended to the act of the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia by HRD Minister Arjun Singh.
The joint committee of Vice Chancellors recommended to the AIU to pass a resolution against acts of support to anti-national by students and their supporters.
Students, who take part in terrorist activities, cease to be students as they are terrorists and should be treated accordingly, the statement said.
The vice chancellors were unanimous in their views that disaster management, such as terrorist attacks and vigilance to prevent such situations, should be made an integrative part of the curricula.
The nationalist values and patriotism should be inculcated among the youth, the statement said, adding, students who take part in anti-national activities should be deterred through punishment.
