Former PCC Vice Prez Sabapathy rejoins Congress

Puducherry, Oct 1: Former Puducherry Congress Committee (PCC) vice-president V Sabapathy, who quit the Congress recently, rejoined the party on Wednesday, Oct 1.

Mr Sabapathy was welcomed back into the party by Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and PCC President A V Subramanian at the party office.

Mr Sabapathy had contested for the first time from Mudaliarpet constituency on Congress ticket in 1974 and won the elections. He was also elected in the 1977, 1980 and 1985 polls.

However, he lost to Manjini of the CPI in 1990. In the 1991 elections, he was denied a Congress ticket and contested as an Independent candiate and defeated V Bhalan of the Congress.

But he lost the 1996 elections, contesting on behalf of Congress.

He was also defeated in the 2001 and the 2006 elections when he contested as an Independent, after parting ways with the party again.
