Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated throughout Kashmir valley
Srinagar, Oct 1: Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramzan, was today celebrated throughout Kashmir with religious gaiety and fervour.
Lakhs of people, wearing colourful dresses, including women and children, joined thanksgiving prayers in Idgahs, Khankhas, holy shrines in the valley.
The main functions were held at Hazratbal shrine, housing the holy relic of Prophet Mohammad, Eidgah ground, historic Jamia Masjid, Jenab Sahib Soura, Charar-e-Sharief, Mehboob-ul-Alam, Dasitigir Sahib and Syed Sahib Sonawar.
About three to four lakh people offered prayers at the holy Hazratbal shrine on the bank of the famous Dal Lake.
Similar congregation was held at Eidgah where chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq joined the Eid prayers.
Reports of Eid celebrations were also received from Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam in south Kashmir, Badgam, Chadoora and Beerwah in central Kashmir, Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Bandipora and Pattan in north Kashmir besides Ganderbal and Kangan.
Children wearing colourful clothes were seen visiting parks and other places to celebrate Eid.
Several religious, social, political and separatist leaders greeted people on the occasion.
