SC extends deadline for Karnataka to install speed governors
New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted one month's further time to the Karnataka goverment for implementing the directions of the state High Court to install speed governors in all commercial vehicles of the state.
The counsel for the Karnataka goverment submitted before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal that if the time for implementing the directions from the High Court is not extended, it will create problems for 20,000 commercial vehicles which comes to Karnataka from other states daily.
Earlier, the Karnataka High Court had directed the state goverment to install speed governors in all commercial vehicles latest by September 30 and the state govt had sought extention of the time as the deadline fixed by the court expired today.
The apex court, while extending the time till October 31, also directed the state goverment to discuss the issue with the Centre to sort out the problem of vehicles entering Karnataka from other states which are not enforced the installation of speed governors.
